There are a couple of new (Autumn 2011) trail running shoes that have caught my attention. At first glance, they look to incorporate good design and features for rugged trail running.
They are the Altra Lone Peak:
And the Brooks PureGrit:
They offer a great combination of a low heel or level sole along with enough cushioning to offer adequate protection for rugged rocky terrain. These are the exact qualities I look for in a shoe for the Ridge Run.
At this time, I have not tried or even seen either of these shoes as they are new models. I have run in the Altra Instinct which is Altra’s road shoe. They impress me, but their sole is nearly smooth and does not offer the grip required for the Ridge Run.
Check the Bozeman Running Company as they carry these brands and would be the first local shop to have these models. If you have any experience with either of these shoes, please comment.
