Getting to the Start on Time

Getting to the Ridge Run start up at Fairy Lake is sort of like the first leg of the race.

Important Update!

I just got admonished by the registration gal that given traffic and slow drivers on the Fairy Lake road that it is better to plan on it taking 1 hour to get from the M to Fairy Lake.

Plan on taking about 45 minutes to drive from the M trailhead (the finish) up to Fairy Lake (the start).

Start Times

The race starts with wave 1 at 7:00 AM. Each succeeding wave starts 5 minutes later than the previous:

  • Wave 1 7:00 AM
  • Wave 2 7:05 AM
  • Wave 3 7:10 AM
  • Wave 4 7:15 AM
  • Wave 5 7:20 AM

So if you are in a later wave, you have a little extra time to get up to the start. If you are in the early waves it is a good idea to get up to Fairy Lake at least by 6:30 AM. Those in the later waves need to be up at Fairy no later than 6:45 AM. This means even those in the last waves should leave the M trail head before 6:00 AM.

As the Race Director’s instructions state: If you leave M trailhead parking lot at 6:00 AM, you will not make the start on time.

Obviously, the earlier you get up there, the less harried your moments before race are as you pick up your bib number, chip and do you last minute prep.

Car Pooling from the M Trail Head

If you need a ride up to the start, get to the M trailhead parking lot at least by 5:30 AM. You can arrive earlier, but there is not much point in arriving before 5:00 AM at the M. Hang out in the bottom portion of the parking lot making yourself visible and your intention to drivers known. Remember it is dark at 5:30 AM so be safe, be visible and don’t wrestle with vehicles.

If you are driving up to the start and have room in your vehicle, please stop at the M trailhead parking lot and see if anyone needs a ride.

Check in at Fairy Lake Opens by 6:00 AM

The race crew plans to get up to Fairy Lake before 6:00 AM. The plan is to have the check in and bib number pickup station setup a bit before 6:00 AM to accommodate runners.

Be aware that it is still fairly dark at 6:00 AM (Sunrise is 6:21 AM). If you are a runner, there is not much point in arriving at the start much before 6:00 AM. If you are up there before 6:00 AM be patient and helpful with the race crew. To expedite the check in process, have your bib number commited to memory.
