Trail Running Popularity

This year nearly 500 people wanted to sign up for the Ridge Run. This is 10 times the number from just 20 years ago. I figured the increase in popularity over the years was due mainly to the increase in local population. In the last 20 years, the Gallatin Valley and surrounding area’s population has nearly increased 10 fold.

But there is more to it than that. It seems that trail running and racing is seeing increased interest everywhere. Many races are confronted with the same situation as the Ridge Run with more demand than capacity. Some races have it much worse and have 5 times the number of runners wanting to get in than can. That results in a lot of disappointed people.

Ridge Run Starting List

Once all those picked in the lottery complete their registration over the next week, I will post a starting list. There are a few people that were selected in the lottery that have already canceled. I suspect there will also be some that fail to complete the registration. As these few slots open up, they are randomly filled with those that did not initially get selected in the lottery. I expect that within a couple weeks, the start list will be finalized and posted.
