Why a Lottery?

This is the first year we will be using an online lottery to choose who gets into the 2011 Ridge Run.

In the past, online registration was on a first come first serve basis. This tilted the odds of getting in, to the technically savvy with the fastest internet service. In years past, Registration filled within minutes leaving many people frustrated and disappointed. The intention of going to a lottery this year is to make things as fair as possible for everyone.

The running club board of directors was split on the necessity of the lottery. Many including the race director, David Summerfield, think that last year’s computer game atmosphere of who is the fastest typist and has the fastest internet service is fine. Depending upon how the lottery system works out, next year may be back to the old way.

Stay tuned.
